It is mainly distributed in Mexico and South America. This kind of forelimb is usually longer than the whole body, with a body length of 3-8 cm. This super long male forelimb can be used to climb trees in addition to attracting the opposite sex.
This beautiful beetle feeds on plant sap and lays eggs on the dried or dying trunk. The activity time is in the daytime, but it will also be attracted by the light source at night. The female longicorn likes to lay eggs on the trunk or wood with basidiomycete fungi, because the fungi provide excellent camouflage. Before spawning, a cut about 20 cm wide and 7.6 cm deep will be made on the tree trunk, and 15 to 20 eggs will be laid here in 2 to 3 days. After hatching, the larvae will burrow into the wood. 7. After 8 months of maturity, the tunnel of the 13 cm (5 inches) long larval stage will become longer, and they will use the excavated narrow space to become pupae. Adults emerge from their pupae after 4 months, and will gnaw a way out on the wood. The adult life span is 1 year.
In the past, some scientists were puzzled. Rainbow longibrachial beetle larvae lived in an environment with fungi. Why wouldn't they be infected? In 2003, French scientists isolated a new type of antibiotic from its body, which can be used to deal with a variety of fungi. It is used to produce new kinds of drugs to reduce the mortality caused by drug-resistant Candida and yeast infections.
